Additional Source ETFs offer investors the first-time opportunity to participate in the performance of the STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Market Quartile indices. This is an expansion of the recently launched Optimised Index family using the market-wide European STOXX 600 index. In the four new indices, companies are selected based on their sensitivity to economic cycles.

“The STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Market Quartile indices track the successful STOXX Optimised Index methodology, which is especially focused on increased liquidity and diversification in the indices, in order to make the financial products based on them easily tradable,” said Hartmut Graf, head of Deutsche Börse’s index business and CEO of STOXX Ltd. “In the innovative index concept, European companies are grouped into the four new indices on the basis of their performance in relation to the economy.”

The STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Consumer Discretionary Index tracks performance of companies that manufacture luxury goods and benefit from disposable income. These include companies in the automotive, clothing and gastronomy industries as well as manufacturers of household goods.

The STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Consumer Staples Index measures the performance of companies whose business does not depend on economic cycles. It comprises food, consumer non-durable goods and retail companies.

The STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Defensive Index focuses on companies that are not affected by economic cycles, such as companies in the energy, health care, telecommunications and insurance sectors.

The STOXX Europe 600 Optimised Cyclicals Index contains companies that are especially sensitive to economic fluctuations and that are not tracked in the other three optimised sub-sectors.

The product offering in Deutsche Börse’s XTF segment currently contains a total of 651 exchange-listed index funds, making it the largest offering of all European stock exchanges. This selection, together with an average monthly trading volume of around €13 billion, makes Xetra Europe’s leading trading venue for ETFs.
