ETF Securities ETF Flow and Return Highlights…

– ETF Securities’ commodity-related equity ETFs outperformed the Dow Jones STOXX 50 Return Index by 10 percentage points on average last week, led by a 20% surge in the ETFS Russell Global Coal Fund (COAL). The ETFS Dow Jones STOXX 600 Basic Resources Fund (BRES) is the strongest performing STOXX 600 sector YTD, outperforming the next strongest sector – Banks – by 19 percentage points since the start of 2009.

– The ETFS Russell Global Coal Fund (COAL) has catapulted to the top spot for ETF Securities’ equity ETFs, jumping 42% over the past 4 weeks. Coal prices continue to find support from reports of Chinese re-stocking in a number of base resources, together with continued improvement in activity indicators around the world. BRES, ETFS Russell Global Steel Large Cap Fund (STLL), and ETFS Russell Global Shipping Large Cap Fund (SHIP) have found similar support, making up 4 of the top 5 of ETF Securities’ equity ETFs last week.

– The ETFS Russell Global Gold Fund (AUCO) which tracks global gold mining stocks has found renewed impetus recently, up 12% over the past week. China’s announcement in late April of a near doubling in its gold reserves since 2003, and the subsequent spike in the gold price, has helped strengthen gold miner returns of late. AUCO remains the strongest long run performer of ETF Securities’ equity ETFs over the past 6 months, up 62%.

– The ETFS S-Net ITG Global Agri Business Fund (AGRI) remains one of the most consistent performers in ETF Securities’ equity ETF range, with AGRI consistently remaining one of the top 5 performers over the past 6 months. AGRI has outperformed the MSCI AC World Total Return Index by 18 percentage points over the past 6 months. Agriculture’s low correlation to the business cycle and strong long term supply-demand fundamentals are key factors supporting investor demand for AGRI.
